Bare Bulb
A mannequin takes on human qualities when dressed like it has its own life. Shot against deep black with a single overhead light, creating stark drama. Styling tells a story an oversized cream button-up, rumpled with a crooked collar, faded jeans. I love the contrast between wrinkled fabric and the mannequin's artificial smoothness, hairless yet masculine with painted-on features.
Bare Bulb, Close Quarters
A tighter look strips away human character, focusing on the mannequin's face. Vignette-heavy shadows force attention onto his expression his gaze slightly off-camera, glassy eyes, blushed lips, a smudge near his nose making him lifelike, yet disturbing up close. The same shirt drapes over his shoulders with a loose collar, directional light bringing out soft fabric creases.
Chiaroscuro
Stripped back to a single beam of light, a face, everything else black classic chiaroscuro. Light hits the head, eyes, nose bridge, lips; the rest is total darkness. The mannequin looks up and away, suggesting detachment. The collar disappears into background darkness. Dialling back the uncanny factor, stripped of visual information, he looks less like a mannequin, more like a mask.
